What we believe

Potential nesting and roosting sites
should be retained.

In the bad old days we were encouraged to ‘sanitise’ trees by removing all deadwood and untidy stubs; we were told that ivy and other climbers strangled and killed trees, cavities indicated a terrifying point of weakness in a tree and the only good tree was a clean, upright and tidy specimen. The reality is that all these features are very valuable to wildlife - much more than the tidied version. They can be assessed and moderated where appropriate in order to fulfil our avowed aim of encouraging trees, people and wildlife to mutual benefit.
